“I write to endorse Maura Carty and Kevin Matthews for the Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee.
Having attended or watched every L-S School Committee meeting since the summer of 2020, I know that the Committee needs fresh leadership that will put the students of L-S first. We need leaders who will actively work to address the learning loss and social-emotional harms that the students have suffered over the past two years.
Maura Carty will bring a new perspective to the Committee. She knows our Lincoln and Sudbury communities very well and has selflessly volunteered in many roles in the schools over the years. She is well-informed about all of the issues the Committee faces. She will come to the Committee with new ideas and fresh energy.
Kevin Matthews is a veteran of the Committee and the best choice for re-election. He is committed to the students and energized about working with a newly constituted Committee to make positive changes at L-S. Both Maura and Kevin are committed to principles that have been lacking in the Committee: actively listening to the concerns of students, parents and the community; following guidance from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; maintaining our high academic standards while also caring for students’ mental health; respecting the letter and spirit of the open meeting laws; and being transparent with the community.
Under the current leadership, L-S failed even to apply for ARPA funds to support students’ social-emotional health. Yet SPS requested and received hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds for two years of social-emotional learning for students and a summer academic program, recognizing the impact of the pandemic on kids. This was a major missed opportunity and just one example of the need for new leadership.
L-S is a uniquely excellent school and has long been a source of pride for our community. The last two years have been difficult. Change is needed to meet the challenges ahead, including helping students recover from pandemic learning loss and protecting student mental health in the midst of a well-documented mental health crisis for teenagers.
Please join me in voting to elect Maura Carty, and re-electing Kevin Matthews. Let’s elect leaders who will put kids first.
Sincerely,
— Dawn Solowey

“I would like to take this opportunity to endorse Kevin Matthews as a candidate for LS School Committee. Kevin is our veteran member on the Committee. Due to his years of dedicated service to the LS community, he has a greater appreciation for the history of our school committee's work than any other member. He has served on multiple subcommittees in addition to leading the Committee as Chair. This year alone, Kevin's knowledge and experience contributed greatly to a very successful negotiation of a new 3-year teacher contract on the negotiations subcommittee. His work on the finance subcommittee led to the LS budget being recently approved in a unanimous vote by the full committee. His genuine commitment to quality public school education for every student clearly informs each and every decision Kevin makes. Additionally, his commitment to transparency with parents and the community will be critically important as we all emerge from the pandemic together. Experience matters and with Kevin's continued service, I believe that the LS School Committee will be well poised to continue making excellent progress over the next three years.”

I am happy to announce my support of Kevin Matthews, a candidate for re-election for the Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee. I have known Kevin for many years and regard him as a major contributor to the School Committee but also to the Town of Sudbury itself. I am very pleased that he is running for re-election, and ask you to consider supporting him as well.
Kevin brings a reasonableness needed in difficult times and his many years on the School Committee adds an institutional knowledge the School Committee dearly needs. With Kevin on the committee L-S has become more fiscally responsible. I believe Kevins role on L-S School Committee has had a significant influence, along with others on the Finance Committee and the BOS, in holding down the runaway spending Sudbury has experienced in the not-so-distant past.
I believe having Kevin on the School Committee has influenced a safer environment for our children. Our family is pleased that L-S has such a successful and solid relationship with the Sudbury Police Department. Officer Walch, the L-S Safety Resource Officer, provides a higher level of comfort for our children at L-S which we are very grateful for. This development I would attribute to Kevin’s leadership on the School Committee.
As our town recovers from the effects of the pandemic, it is Kevin Matthews, that I hope to see leading the L-S School Committee.
Please consider joining me on March 28 by voting for Kevin Matthews for L-S School Committee.
Thank You,
Scott Sawin
We applaud all the people stepping forward to help our schools and town this election season and understand how large of a commitment it is to volunteer to help your town and schools.
We have known Maura Carty and Kevin Matthews personally for a long time. We know them as parents, friends and longtime active members of our community. They are involved because they are caring parents and they want the best for our schools. They have volunteered countless hours of their time over the years. Knowing them as well as we do we trust them to maintain and improve, if possible, the academic standards and the overall experience at LS. What we know best about Maura and Kevin and the main reason we decided to endorse them is because: They are open to feedback. They are open-minded and reasonable. They are approachable. They will listen to teachers, parents and students and they will do their best to support our teachers and our students. LS is a great academic institution and we know Maura and Kevin and we trust them to continue the standards we expect.
Please consider supporting Carty and Matthews for LS.
